Tangible Campfire Quest

Campfire Quest was developed in 2025 by Tangible in collaboration with Creative Hut and the Irish Girl Guides and was supported by funding from the ESB Energy for Generations Fund. Over 1,000 girls and Leaders will learn to code with Campfire Quest during the Irish Girl Guides’ International Camp Orbit.

In this bespoke game, girls solve the puzzle to lead the guide to light the campfire and unlock knowledge. While completing each level, girls will learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and maths, as well as answering questions about Irish Girl Guides and famous women in STEAM.

About Tangible

Tangible was created in 2017 when Byron Batteson, a 21-year-old student, created an
app to enable children to develop Computational Thinking skills for his Honours project at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.

Professor Jean Greyling, head of the Computing Sciences Department, recognised its potential and transformed the idea into a full-fledged operation. This venture started as a university engagement project and showcases the power of student-teacher collaboration. Byron is now with Amazon in Cape Town, while Prof. Greyling continues to lead Tangible and inspire students.

“Campfire Quest is a powerful blend of camp adventure and STEAM learning. It’s inspiring to see over 1,000 girls and Leaders at Orbit 2025 building coding skills and confidence through play. Thanks to the teams in Tangible, Creative Hut and the ESB Energy for Generations Fund for their support.”
