Mobile STEM Van Delivery

The Background: Inspiring every learner to see themselves in STEM

Milton Keynes thrives on engineering and innovation, but schools across the region still face barriers to hands-on STEM learning. STEMx, led by MK College in partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing, set out to change that by creating an interactive, curriculum-aligned programme that makes STEM tangible, inclusive and career-connected.

We were approached by MK College to help turn a powerful idea into a scalable experience, using our experience in practical, play-based learning to develop memorable activities for young people. Our role also included developing the digital infrastructure that lets learning continue long after the STEMx van drives away.

STEMx was created to open up and diversify the STEM talent pool. We want more girls in STEM, more voices from under-represented communities, and equal opportunity for every young person to explore these careers.

The Challenge: Access, confidence and representation

Across the UK, enthusiasm for STEM is high, yet participation remains uneven, and schools have told us that whilst students were eager to explore science and technology, the cost of travel, pressure on timetables, and lack of teacher confidence made it difficult to deliver interactive learning.

At the same time, the wider industry faces an urgent challenge: diversifying the talent pipeline. Girls and students from under-represented communities are still far less likely to pursue STEM subjects beyond school.

STEMx was designed to help address that imbalance, bringing high-impact, real-world learning directly to the communities that need it most.

Our brief was clear: remove friction, support teachers, and work alongside Oracle Red Bull Racing and MK College to develop a learning experience that was accessible, portable and inclusive.

The Solution: A mobile experience with a digital backbone

We collaborated closely with MK College to develop a coding challenge for students, taking part on bespoke Creative Hut mats, themed around Monaco and Silverstone. As a mobile classroom was a key part of the college’s experience, we ensured that all our code could be transported with ease.

To extend learning beyond the day, we worked with the STEMx team to create a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) - a six-week block of curriculum content produced jointly by Creative Hut and MK College subject experts. The VLE allows teachers to continue the STEMx experience in class, building confidence and continuity.

The result is a two-part model: in-person activation plus self-delivery that makes STEMx repeatable, affordable and easy to timetable for schools of all sizes.

Creative Hut’s expertise helped us make STEMx fun, tangible and scalable - from the coding mats to the VLE. We couldn’t have moved this fast without them.

The Impact: 3,000 learners and counting

In its first academic year, STEMx reached more than 3,000 learners across primary and secondary schools - including bespoke sessions for specialist provision and home-educated students.

The mobile format removed travel costs and logistical barriers, while the VLE extended the learning journey and helped embed new skills. Teachers reported that students who had never engaged with STEM before were now excited, curious, and confident enough to take part.

The programme’s inclusive design has been instrumental in reaching new audiences - from girls discovering engineering for the first time to pupils from disadvantaged communities gaining early exposure to high-tech, hands-on learning.

This project represents the very best of collaboration between industry and education. Together with Creative Hut and MK College, we’re inspiring the next generation of engineers, many of whom might one day work in our team.

Looking Ahead: Scaling access and deepening learning

With demand growing across the region, the focus now is on reaching more schools within the one-hour catchment, refining modules for different age groups, and expanding VLE resources so teachers can re-run and adapt experiences throughout the year.

Oracle Red Bull Racing and MK College working with Creative Hut will continue to evolve the programme and, in turn, strengthen teacher confidence, widen industry representation, and build an inclusive pipeline of future engineers and technologists.

It’s been a real privilege to work alongside MK College to bring this concept to life. STEMx is a great example of what happens when creativity, collaboration and industry come together to remove barriers and open doors for every student.
